Dining Room Furniture Styles Between Tradition and Design
The traditions and values we've held on through the years couldn't come move active than in the dining room where the whole family gathers for some good food and great conversations. There's probably no other place in the home where you could get everyone to share the day's events, crack jokes and make life just sweeter for having all these special people around. This is where great home memories are developed and when it comes to making these memories more special, you can count on fine dining furniture.
Comparing traditional and modern dining sets will lead one to discover that the differences don't only lie in design. There have been some major modifications even in the treatment of wood, along with the finishing and the resulting textures. Classic furniture would usually emphasize the grain of the wood which is finished with medium to dark shades. These days, dining furniture can go to extremes of either plain black or plain white.
While this is not absolute, this is how things go for the most part in the modern furniture industry. Most commonly, a dining table would commonly be weighty especially in the base or leg part, thus, making the whole dining set quite huge. Numerous dining furniture comes with elaborate engravings or etchings in them.
For instance, you can find furniture with unusually shaped legs, bases or tabletops with artistic etched designs. These are the traditional ways that dining furniture may come but in the modern setting, things could be rather different. Modern dining room tables, for example, will highlight mere lines and shapes with nothing of those ornate details characteristic of classic furniture. Modern furniture for any part of the home is dependent on defined angles, geometric details and color. Several people find the trend boring but that's only because today's furniture is anchored on sleek, simple yet sophisticated designs.
Traditional and modern furniture now also differ in the materials used. These days, engineered wood are so common, thus, contributing to the difference in the way modern furniture looks. While traditional furniture highlights the wood's grain as part of its charm, veneers have been generously today used to give pieces a deep shiny finish without leaving room for the grain to show.
The fundamental difference between traditional and modern furniture lies in the amount of detail. Traditional furniture is bulky and ornate and while modern furniture is sleek and simple.

The Barcelona chair and Barcelona day bed are the most popular among contemporary modern furniture that have come up with the most popular and durable design in the recent times. Le Corbusier has come to define modern furniture in its entirety. Corbusier has come up with new designs in tables, chairs and lounges. Corbusier products have their unique designs; like the Corbusier LC4 chaise lounge which is made in the shape of human bode and is therefore perfectly comfortable to relax in. Another incredible design by corbusier comes in the form of a cubicle sofa chair called LC2. Made with a stainless steel structure this Corbusier sofa has thick layered leather upholstery for utmost comfort.
The artistic design of Noguchi tables attracts the attention of anyone who sees it for the first time. The coffee table which later came to be called the Noguchi table or the Tribeca table came up with its initial design in the year 1944. In addition to solid black, the Noguchi table comes with a dark walnut or natural oak base.
Contemporary furniture is defined by various other designs for chairs which include the Ball chair, Egg chair and Ghost chair. As the name suggests the Ball chair was made keeping the ball in mind. It is made by cutting a portion of ball. The best thing in a Ball chair is that it gives a perfect cozy feeling to anyone who sits in it.

Old History Of Modern Furniture
It was in the 19th century after the industrial revolution had given birth to a new class of people that
futuristic ideas evolved. The traditional dark, gilded or carved wood, covered with heavy richly patterned
fabrics gave way to light and simple looking furniture. Between the decency and the down trodden poor the middle
class had emerged. They cast aside anything that was related to the rich who had trampled the poor ruthlessly.
Also influences from Africa, Asia and particularly Japan had a lasting effect on designing of modern furniture.
Functionality, practicality and economic viability were the new order in furniture. Technology and industrial
development were already playing their role in making of simplistic yet useful furniture.
Michael Thonet an Austrian German cabinet maker was the first to experiment in making bent wood furniture and
using glue for joining wood pieces. His coffee shop chair also known as 'Konsumstuhl Nr 14' became world famous
and till 1930 over 50 million of these chairs were produced. Another famous chair of that era was the 'Tripolina
chair'. It was made of wood, metal and canvas and was patented by Joseph Fendy in 1877. This chair was broadly
used by the British troops during the colonial era. The director's chair is a simple folding chair that uses a
scissor action to fold and is made of wood and canvas, or any other strong material that can bear the weight of
the occupant. The design of this chair dates back to the 15th century and the design has been taken from ancient
Roman folding stools.
A number of of the iconic examples of modern furniture are the Marcel Breur's Wassily chair. This chair uses
lightweight tubular steel and leather straps. The exquisite and simplistic design of these geometric shaped
planes almost makes the leather straps appear to be suspended in space. The Ellen Gray side table, the Barcelona
chair and Noguchi table are some of the other icons of modern furniture.
Modern furniture is functional, practical and tastefully designed to give a feeling of luxury and lightness. It
differs entirely from the dark and heavily embroidered medieval furniture. Metals, plastics, glass are now used
along with wood in making modern furniture and a whole new generation of fabrics and colors are used. The
fabrics used are of bold and bright colors which make modern furniture look inviting and artistic. Modern
furniture has taken many forms and shapes and furniture designers use geometric patterns to create modern
furniture.

Furniture to style the Modern Home
Are you in the process of furnishing your home with some new furniture but can’t quite find the right look? Generally those looking for furniture base their decisions on a number of things. Price, quality, uniqueness or durability are some of the main factors. If the price is the main concern then you will have a budget and look for Modern Furniture based within your price bracket. If however you are looking for an exclusive piece of furniture then you will want it to be top quality that will last for years to come. So where do you look?
A type of furniture which you may over look is rattan furniture or cane furniture. When thinking of cane furniture you might have an idea in your mind of some old rocking chair your grandparents have in their conservatory. Well you need to think again as cane furniture has evolved and there are some seriously stylish and unique items available. Cane furniture is made to last for years to come and some pieces are so durable you can leave them outside in all weather and they will still look beautiful year after year. The price for quality rattan furniture may not be cheap but what you get is exclusive furniture that you won’t find in many homes across the country. You will have a very comfortable living suite of dining suite that will really make your room stand out from others.
The colour of cane furniture which is available has also evolved. No longer are you stuck with the antique pine type of colour, you can now get items in black, java brown and red. You can still get the original can colour but there are also different variations like tobacco wash which is a darker version of antique pine. You can also get custom made cushions in any colour and shade of the rainbow. So if you want a black living suite with bright red or blue cushions this is now possible. You may have to wait as designer cane is back in fashion and it is flying of the designers shelves.
You might have noticed on a recent holiday that lot of hotels and restaurants have durable but beautifully stylish Modern Office Furniture and many are made from cane or rattan. They need furniture that outlasts the normal life span of a piece of furniture so they only buy top quality designer furniture. You won’t find furniture like this in any high street shop so where do they buy it from?
Looking for unusual and exclusive furniture can be quite tricky as some of the best furniture makers only sell to a number of outlets and finding these outlets can be the hard part. Some of the best furniture is not available in high street shops because the designers don’t want their furniture to become mainstream. These furniture designers only allow a number of online stores or go around promoting their furniture at furniture and craft fairs.
